Here’s what to do if you slept with your makeup on

In the list of the things I dislike the most in life, waking up with “dirty” skin is on top of the list. You know that feeling, your skin feels dry, rough and you look 10 years older. Well, this happens to me once a month I’d say.  I seriously admire the girls saying that no matter what, they will always take time to remove their makeup off. To be honest I feel that I am very diligent about my skincare routine. But let’s face it, when it’s 3 am, you had a few drinks, all you want is your body to hit the bed as quick as possible. Am I right?

Ok, so what to do the morning after? I got your back ma chérie!

1. Double cleanse!

The morning after, don’t think that wiping your face with micellar water or with wipes will be enough. Non madame! You have to deep cleanse. First, reach for an oil-based makeup remover, I like the Dior Hydra Life Oil. It’s gentle and breaks down the makeup like a charm. Your skin is irritated, it’s not the right time to use aggressive products (it never is the time actually…). Then follow up with a gentle cleanser. I love using the La Roche Posay Tolériane milk, I put a small amount in the palms of my hands, massage my skin, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This product is great because it’s been made especially for sensitive, irritated skin.

Then I follow with my favorite calming toner (which I ran out of), it’s from La Roche Posay again!

2. Mask!

This one will depend on your skin type, and your skin needs. Personally, the morning after, my skin is super clogged, I can literally feel the dead skin cells on my chin. So what I do is; gently scrub my skin with the Caudalie exfoliator, then I apply the Effaclar clay mask to purify my skin. This is what works for me but some of you might prefer a brightening mask, or something else. It really is up to you. But the best solution might be multi masking if you have combination skin with different issues.

After your mask, use a face mist or a hydrating toner.

3. Hydrate!

You need to bring moisture back to your skin. To do so, apply your regular hydrating serum. I don’t have a favorite one. At the moment I use the Vichy Mineral 89 which is really nice. Then I would apply my eye cream, the Estée Lauder Advanced night repair eye concentrate matrix – what a name!

To boost your skin hydration (and depending on skin needs)  I would use either a super nice “rich” cream like the ultra facial by Kiehl’s or a thin layer of this moisture surge mask by Clinique.

4. The cherry on top - a sheet mask!

After all these steps, if you want to go a bit further, which I recommend – use a sheet mask! Sheet masks are great, efficient, and real hydration boosters. Use the one that you like, my personal preference goes to Rose sheet mask by Sephora , Estée Lauder sheet mask, and Charlotte Tilbury sheet mask.

Of course, we should avoid at all cost sleeping with our makeup on. In French, we say ” c’est la base “, but hey no one is perfect, right?! Do you have any skincare tips that you swear by? Let me know in the comments below. Bisous!
